One of the main concerns of Semiofest is spreading the word about what we do with semiotics. So this year we are going to offer two workshops for people interested in Semiotics (students, teachers, professionals of different areas), focusing on Design and Semiotics. We are delighted to have Malex Salamanques (Space Doctors, UK)<\/a> and Luc\u00eda Neva (Visual Signo, UK)<\/a> coordinating them!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Design and semiotics: looking both ways<\/strong><\/p>\n

While some semioticians within commercial contexts certainly make claims to the adoption of design analysis, these are far removed from systematic methods to analyse visual grammars in combination with semiotic theories and analytical techniques related to the application of theory and knowledge intrinsic to graphic design. The main objective of this workshop is to demonstrate the value of an approach to understand products and communications that combines both semiotics and graphic design as a powerful method to minimise visual dilemmas in the commercial context. The workshop will incorporate a brief introduction to semiotics, examples and practical exercises of formal analysis that derive from traditions within graphic design itself in combination with semiotics approaches.
\nThe grounds for this workshop is the experience that both authors have as graphic designers working in commercial semiotics in the UK, providing design and cultural analysis using this powerful approach to generate insight and translate it- sometimes almost simultaneously – in cues for production (creative execution) for local and global brands, in a wide range of categories.<\/p>\n

En Semiofest, uno de nuestros principales intereses es explicar y difundir qu\u00e9 hacemos con la semi\u00f3tica. Para ello, este a\u00f1o vamos a ofrecer dos talleres para personas interesadas en el tema (estudiantes, docentes, profesionales de distintas \u00e1reas), sobre Dise\u00f1o y Semi\u00f3tica. Estamos encantados de anunciar que tendremos a Malex Salamanques (Space Doctors, Reino Unido)<\/a> y Luc\u00eda Neva (Visual Signo, Reino Unido)<\/a> como coordinadoras.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aqu\u00ed tienen la propuesta:<\/p>\n

Dise\u00f1o y semi\u00f3tica: Mirando los dos lados<\/strong>
\nEn el contexto de la Semiotica comercial, algunos profesionales profesan la inclusi\u00f3n de an\u00e1lisis dise\u00f1o en sus investigaciones. Sin embargo, es com\u00fan encontrar que muchos desconocen metodolog\u00edas sistem\u00e1ticas propias del dise\u00f1o gr\u00e1fico para analizar gram\u00e1ticas visuales y muchas veces se analiza el dise\u00f1o de manera superficial y\/o de manera independiente del an\u00e1lisis semi\u00f3tico.<\/p>\n

El objetivo principal de este taller es demostrar el valor de un enfoque que combina metodolog\u00edas provenientes de la semi\u00f3tica y el dise\u00f1o gr\u00e1fico para analizar diferentes tipos comunicaciones y productos, ayudando a reducir al m\u00ednimo los dilemas visuales que se pueden producir en un contexto comercial. El taller incorporar\u00e1 una breve introducci\u00f3n a la semi\u00f3tica, ejemplos y ejercicios pr\u00e1cticos de an\u00e1lisis formal que se derivan de tradiciones propias del dise\u00f1o gr\u00e1fico, en combinaci\u00f3n con enfoques semi\u00f3ticos y antropol\u00f3gicos.<\/p>\n

Lucia y Malex son dise\u00f1adoras gr\u00e1ficas quienes trabajan en el contexto de semi\u00f3tica comercial en el Reino Unido, ayudando a marcas locales y globales en distintas categor\u00edas a visualizar y traducir signos relevantes para la producci\u00f3n (ejecuci\u00f3n creativa) e implementaci\u00f3n de mensajes. Las dos son pioneras en la implementaci\u00f3n de metodolog\u00edas de dise\u00f1o en el an\u00e1lisis semi\u00f3tico.<\/p>\n
