Semiofest has been set up to facilitate the sharing of semiotic thinking internationally as well as to allow those who practice applied semiotics (the study of signs, meaning and communication in culture) to connect with like-minded people. The ‘community’ beneficiary, in this case, is the dispersed (not local) ‘community of enquirers’, practitioners, students and other parties who are interested in semiotics.

Semiofest is not being run as a profit-making venture. The way we profit is through new ideas and the connections made between people. We profit through being involved in organizing an event pioneering a fresh, new forum for discussion of applied semiotics. We believe that, like the Linked In Semiotic Thinking Group, this will progress semiotic in terms of levels of sharing and solidarity.
