Susanna Franek
Anthropologists, Madrid
Susanna applies anthropological theories and methods to cross-cultural qualitative research. As a semiotics student, through an intersectional lens, her practice informs narratives on race, gender relations, and immigrant rights. She advocates for traditionally silenced communities to be heard and respected. Susanna holds an MA in Cultural Anthropology and an Interdisciplinary MA combining Women’s Studies, Latin American Studies, and Art from California State University, Los Angeles. A native of Los Angeles, she recently relocated her home base to Madrid. Within her academic and personal interests, she navigates within culturally infused spaces of Middle Eastern & Latin American Studies and the arts, be it through painting, music, and dance.
Susanna writes:
“Co-organizing and co-hosting Semiofest Porto was a mixed bag of adrenaline and emotion, an invigorating ride through different stages of uncertainty and excitement. What a ride! Yet it all culminated in the delightful ritual of experiencing communitas that was deep and playful. This is the essence of Semiofest.“
